So how do you handle a bullying boss in in the workplace ? Many times an employee faces hardships accepting a supervisor or boss who tries to dictate and dominate a work place. The aim of such seniors is to take complete control of the employees and keep a hold of them. It is known as bullying by the boss. Bullying is torturing an employee psychologically that can hurt his or her respect, ego, capability and integrity of the bully's target. It occurs amongst an employee or the employer or between people of different status in the same company. The boss can bully its employee in various forms, such as criticism, mocking, scornful remarks, as well as unnecessary warnings for targets, shouting, and use of abusive and hateful words. An employee feels emotionally disturbed, vulnerable, weak and dishonored at the hands of the employer. He or she feels disappointed and discouraged while at work. Such an attitude on the part of the employer or a senior professional is a symbol of irresponsibility and insensitivity. No organization can grow successfully which has such bullying bosses. It will surely prove costly to the organization in terms of status and respect in the business world. Such kinds of bosses think that they are justified in their action when they bully their subordinates and make their life miserable. And it has a negative impact on the life of the employee who is getting bullied. It doesn't only affect his or her professional life but also has a great impact on their personal lives too. They feel irritated and frustrated even amongst their family members. The employees in such hostile working conditions feel like running from this kind of tyrant rule. They are not able to concentrate on their job, begin to feel nervous and lose self-confidence. Some employees think of running away from such situations and leave the company. But escapism is not a solution. An employee resigning or leaving such a job means that he or she has surrendered before the tyrant and cruel employer. In such cases, the employer is not the loser but the employee is wasting his or her experience and seniority in the company. But instead of quitting the job, the victim should complaint to the senior position executive or boss at the company or should talk frankly about your grievances to the HR department. If your company is a sister concern of some parent company, find the means to contact the head of the parent company. Report your grievances and your employer's bullying behaviour to the parent company. Discrimination on the basis of age, sex, disability, colour, race and religion is also considered a way of bullying an employee. If you face any such discrimination amongst your colleagues, you should not sit quiet. Discrimination and harassment of any sort is illegal in eyes of law. So, you can file a discrimination case against your employer. Bullying at work affects many employees around the country and the sooner employers and employees recognize it, then the sooner they can start implementing activities that work to stop bullying and harrassment in the workplace - wherever you may work. |
